Shane Best Cowboy Fight

The best fight scene I have ever seen in a movies was in the 1953  Paramount classic #"Shane" starring Alan Ladd , Jean Arthur, Brandon De Wilde and Ben Johnson.. The fight takes place in a bar between Ben Johnson and Ladd. It is so much more then great choreography. it is exciting as hell.

Ladd had earlier been embarrassed by Johnson in the same bar when Johnson threw drink at him without Shane responding making him look like a coward.. Shane was just meeting a new set of men who were all getting shoved around by Johnson and his group of evil me. They were being harassed by these guys for settling on the land of Rufus Ryker, their boss, who owned much of the adjacent land and didn't like the "squatters" to stay on the land they had claimed..

Shane, (Ladd) had originally gone to town and gone into the bar where all the bad guys hung out to buy a soda pop for little Joey De Wilde,, the son of the leader of the settlers played by Van Heflin  He had come to idolize #Shane who had drifted in and been staying with his mother and father and working for them.Van Hefflin was the leader of the settlers.

The men had all questioned Shane's courage after he allowed Ben Johnson to throw a drink at him without retaliating a while before at the local bar.. When Shane comes into the bar the second time with all the other settlers he intentionally confronted Johnson and this time throws a drink at him.

The fight is then on and in one of the most exciting, heart warming punch ups I have ever seen Shane beats the crap out of Johnson.Shanes use of his fists was terriffic. The fight expands to all of Johnson's bad guys joining in at which time Van Johnson jumps in to help Shane and they successfully wipe out all the other cowboys with their fists.

Little Brandon De Wilde, Heflin's son, watches wide eyed as he sees Shane kicking ass in the bar along with his father. The fight was so compelling and entertaining and gave Ladd instant credibility with all the guys who had questioned his courage.

He ultimately came back to the bar one more time when things had turned deadly and gunfighter Jack Palance had been brought in to kill Shane, Shane first fought with Van Johnson to keep him from coming to town to meet Palance, a trained gunfighter who Van Heflin would be no match for. He knocks out Van Johnson and goes to town and then kills Palance and Ryker ending the danger to Heflin and the other settlers.

He then rides away with a tearful Brandon De Wilde screaming at him to come back.
No one knows whether Shane had been shot or if he was unhurt as he rode away with frantic Joey crying and chasing him. and begging Shane to come back.
